FRIENDS OF CLAINES CHuRCH

WELCOME TO NICK

A huge welcome to Nick Kaleniuk and his family as he starts as curate with us in Claines today, 5th July.

Nick was ordained Deacon in Worcester Cathedral on 4th July in a marathon two and a half hour service. As a new curate Nick will be learning what it means to minister within a parish in preparation for the time that he will have his own parish in 3 or 4 years. Nick has been training for 3 years on the West of England Ministerial Training Course, based in Cheltenham, but today he starts a new phase of training, when he will face the practical outworking of some of the theoretical training which he has undertaken so far. The transition from being an ordinand to a full time minister (deacon or priest) is a large one, and in his first year of training with us he will become acclimatised to that new role.

As a deacon Nick will be able to lead certain services in the church, such as Evensong and baptism, he will also conduct funerals and take parts of other services, including preaching; but the main themes of his first year are acclimatisation to his new role, learning what it means to minister within a parish and preparing for being a priest in a year’s time.

Nick, his wife Alex and their children, Nicholas (4)  and Elizabeth (6 months), will be moving into their house in Drovers Way the week after the ordination, before moving to Tamarisk Close  when it becomes available.

We warmly welcome Nick, Alex, Nicholas and Elizabeth and hope that they will find their time in Claines an enjoyable, fun and rewarding one.
