CLAINES BOY BISHOP MAKES HISTORY

WITH BISHOP JOHN OF WORCESTER

On Saturday 1st March 2008, John Geoffrey Inge, the 113th Bishop of Worcester was enthroned.  Louis Warburton, the 37th Boy Bishop of Claines, played an important part in the day.

Louis was invited to join the Bishop in a procession through Worcester, and then took a leading role in the Children’s Welcome Service which was held before the Bishop’s full Enthronement.

A procession of around 200 led the Bishops from the Cathedral, around College Green, through Sidbury and then into the Cathedral North Door. Bishop John and Boy Bishop Louis took up their rightful positions at the rear of the procession, led by children of the Diocese to drums and music. Boy Bishop Louis was in full robes carrying the Claines’ Crosier.

On entering the Cathedral the service started with a welcome from Boy Bisop Louis and he then led Bishop John to his place. As Bishop John was not yet enthroned, Boy Bishop Louis took his seat in the Bishop’s  Episcopal Chair, or throne.

Bishop John, our Father in God

We pray that you are embraced by the love of God;

Inspired by the example of Jesus;

And strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit

In order that you may lead us all closer to the light of Christ

A short service followed and the service concluded with a prayer said by Boy Bishop Louis, shown below.

Bishop John was later enthroned in a magnificent service in the Cathedral.

We welcome him and wish him a happy and successful time with us in the Worcester Diocese.
